Putting access to education front and center in Colombia

The story of World Tech Makers

Through Deloitte’s WorldClass initiative, we are committed to expanding opportunities for 100 million people by 2030. Our professionals are using their skills and expertise to mentor individuals, and to support organizations that are addressing education and skills gaps. The stories in this collection highlight some of the individuals impacted by this work.

As part of Deloitte’s WorldClass ambition to impact 100 million people, our partnership with One Young World (OYW) develops young professionals into future leaders who can solve the world’s toughest problems. Ilana Milkes is one of those leaders. Her startup, World Tech Makers is focused on addressing the digital skills gap in Colombia and the broader region. Ilana’s coding and technology bootcamps help individuals develop the skills necessary to compete in today’s job market. They also allow students to connect with organizations interested in hiring or investing in their startups.

World Tech Makers has impacted 11,500 young people across Colombia. Deloitte is helping Ilana put access to education front and center by providing her startup with mentorship and advisory support from across business areas. She says, “Deloitte has helped me personally, as well as the team and the organization. As a leader, I learned a lot about self-awareness and how to reframe situations to communicate better. I’m also learning to understand different perspectives from areas outside of technology entrepreneurship.”

Over the last year, Deloitte has helped World Tech Makers relaunch their bootcamps. Across the six sessions, students achieved 100% job placement.

As a woman in STEM promoting equity in education, Ilana is an inspiration to many. Says one of her Deloitte mentors, “She’s an example for other women and girls to fight for their beliefs and their dreams.”
