Empowering the next generation of cocoa farmers in Indonesia

Through Deloitte’s WorldClass initiative, we are committed to expanding opportunities for 100 million people by 2030. Our professionals are using their skills and expertise to mentor individuals, and to support organizations that are addressing education and skills gaps. The stories in this collection highlight some of the individuals impacted by this work.

Cocoa farming communities in Indonesia are under threat, facing the pressures of climate change and an ageing workforce. Deloitte GROW aims to sow the seeds of entrepreneurship among the next generation of cocoa farmers, with the hope of supporting these communities to adapt and thrive.

Through the GROW program, Deloitte professionals work with young people in rural areas to enhance financial literacy, develop job skills, and provide access to economic and professional development opportunities. The 5-week program aims to grow and nurture participants in applying their knowledge, skills, and creativity towards different ways of growing money—all while helping to improve their wider communities’ economic prospects. Through coaching, mentoring, and training, participants have been able to grow their seed money by a phenomenal 400%.

The program is a collaborative effort between Deloitte Indonesia and Barry Callebaut Group—a leading manufacturer of high-quality chocolate and cocoa products.

Together we are proud to be empowering the next generation of cocoa farmers with the skills necessary to create thriving and sustainable farming communities.
