Matt Walden is Partner in Financial Advisory – Energy and Climate Advisory at Deloitte Australia. He has over 20 years of experience as a corporate finance and strategy specialist focusing on energy transition and technology commercialisation. He has worked extensively with a range of commercial entities to identify and develop emission reduction and renewable energy solutions. Recently, Matt has expanded to focus on opportunities in the renewable fuels sector in Australia. Within it, he has advised industry and government entities on near-and-long-term strategies. In the past, he has also served as an advisor to governments on policies and investments towards delivering decarbonisation solutions. He has spent eight years as an Investment Director at an independent Australian federal government investment agency that manages Australia's renewable energy programs. While serving in that role, he was responsible for delivering large and complex, often unprecedented transactions in the areas of hydrogen, renewable fuels, energy from waste, remote area power, energy storage and large scale solar.
Additionally, in his professional journey, Matt has advised on Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) investment and strategy, biogenic SAF, bioenergy roadmaps, liquid fuel strategies, renewable hydrogen and others. He has held the responsibility for a range of industry reports on themes such as hydrogen exports, bioenergy, and biogas among others. He has also delivered investments to support initial projects aimed at delivering biomethane and renewable hydrogen for certification in Australia.
