Hitoshi Matsumoto has been the chair of the Deloitte Asia Pacific board since the inception of the regional entity. In this role he works with the board and management to create and drive the regional strategy and direction of the firm. He is also an audit partner in Japan and has specialized in servicing clients that are in the consumer business and TMT sectors. Hitoshi has also been the Lead Client Service Partner for several Japanese clients which operate globally.
He has over 30 years of professional experience as an auditor and CPA at Deloitte Japan, and has spent eight years in the US in Detroit and New York. In America, he was part of the Japanese Services Group that was formed in recognition of the specialized needs of global companies that are head quartered in Japan. With his audit expertise and broad experience working in different geographies, Hitoshi was appointed Co-Chair of the Global Japanese Services Group council from 2011 to August 2018. The group expanded rapidly under his leadership and clocked double digit growth through this period.
Hitoshi served on the Deloitte Tohmatsu Board in Japan from 2015 to 2018 where he was the Deputy Chair and the Chair of the Nomination Committee. He also served on Deloitte’s Global Board from 2015 to 2019.
Hitoshi is an avid runner and is part of a running club. He has completed 8 marathons and over 20 half marathons. His favorite marathon is at Naha, Japan, colloquially known as the Festival of Sun, Ocean and Joggers. He loves baseball and is a passionate supporter of the New York Yankees.
He lives in Tokyo with his wife and two daughters and their toy poodle Kanon.
