Journey and Meaning of Partnership: Timo Perkola’s Story

I value the core philosophy of Deloitte’s partnership: we do this because we want to leave the firm in better shape for those who follow us.

I have been with Deloitte since 2008 and have served as a partner for the past five years. What initially attracted me most was the opportunity to learn from diverse clients and projects within an inspiring company—and that remains true today. Over the years, I have held various roles, which has kept my work engaging and meaningful. The idea of partnership gradually became clearer and more compelling to me.

I value the core philosophy of Deloitte’s partnership: we do this because we want to leave the firm in better shape for those who follow us. I hope that eventually the right person will step into my shoes at the right time. Partnership naturally carries great responsibility, and I find it important what image and lessons we pass on to our bright, young professionals. I want to help others advance in their careers because their success is my success. Beyond supporting others, partnership requires drive to push things forward, proactivity towards clients, and a genuine interest in business development.

Professional work is fundamentally a master-apprentice relationship. The key is to enjoy the journey, as the destination only leads to new paths. We help clients make sound decisions amid complex technologies and major transformations. As a partner, it is crucial to have broad curiosity, the ability to connect the dots, and to identify what truly matters. Technology has always been and remains my central and most fascinating theme.

Ultimately, it’s all about people—we do business with people. We experts are people too, and understanding and human connection are essential. Challenges arise in every job, but many issues can be resolved through dialogue and collaboration. I spend some of my free time with colleagues and regularly meet former Deloitte professionals. Working with smart people is a pleasure, and it is the human connection that sustains and drives this work.

Partnership at Deloitte

Deloitte is owned solely by our partners—employees who invest in and lead the firm without external shareholders.

Each partner has two roles: as an employee, they deliver and sell client services; as an owner, they help grow the firm and develop future partners.

Our partners’ key responsibility is to safeguard the firm and pass it on stronger to the next generation, many of whom are already part of Deloitte.

"Partnership resembles the traditional craft guild model, where becoming an entrepreneur is a journey through apprenticeship and mastery. Partnership is earned through the trust of our clients, experts, and stakeholders. At its core, being a partner embodies our belief in creating meaningful impact for society."
– Lari Hintsanen, CEO, Deloitte Finland
