Journey and Meaning of Partnership: Eeva Hiulumäki’s Story

Feeling heard is the main reason I have enjoyed working at Deloitte for so long.

I joined Deloitte in 2006, shortly before graduating from the University of Tampere, where I specialised in tax law. I was encouraged to apply by a university tutor who had worked at Deloitte. I knew beforehand that the Big Four environment is international and dynamic, and I can still wholeheartedly confirm this. I have always enjoyed a certain intensity and drive in my work. The idea of partnership has developed over time; as a young professional, it felt distant. Over the years, the path to partnership became clearer as I met goals and delivered results. Partnership requires staying attuned to the times and a willingness to embrace constant change. One must see opportunities in change and approach them positively—with persistence, as partnership demands hardwork.

Feeling heard is why I have stayed at Deloitte so long. I have always been able to express when I needed new challenges or changes in my role—and I have received them. Experienced colleagues have supported my career progression, and I have been fortunate to have various interesting opportunities. Nowadays, I hope to offer similar support to other professionals so they can grow and develop their skills. I feel responsible for my team’s well-being, job satisfaction, and providing sufficiently challenging tasks. It is also important to me that our professionals maintain a healthy work-life balance. I value openness and collaboration, whether among Deloitte colleagues or with clients. A strong team spirit and good teamwork are vital—no one succeeds alone in this work.

Partnership at Deloitte

Deloitte is owned solely by our partners—employees who invest in and lead the firm without external shareholders.

Each partner has two roles: as an employee, they deliver and sell client services; as an owner, they help grow the firm and develop future partners.

Our partners’ key responsibility is to safeguard the firm and pass it on stronger to the next generation, many of whom are already part of Deloitte.

"Partnership resembles the traditional craft guild model, where becoming an entrepreneur is a journey through apprenticeship and mastery. Partnership is earned through the trust of our clients, experts, and stakeholders. At its core, being a partner embodies our belief in creating meaningful impact for society."
– Lari Hintsanen, CEO, Deloitte Finland
