"I value our coaching culture highly. My coach has significantly accelerated my professional development and career progression. I hope to offer the same kind of support and encouragement to my own coachees."
I began my career at Deloitte in 2021 as a trainee in the Global Business Tax service line at our Tampere office during the final phase of my business studies. Tax law felt like a natural choice for me as it is a highly practical field that combines both commercial and legal aspects. I was particularly drawn to international corporate taxation and believed that consulting would suit me well due to its dynamic and fast-paced nature. After a year and a half, I relocated from Tampere to our Helsinki office, where I currently work as a manager in the Transfer Pricing team.
While my primary focus is transfer pricing, we are encouraged to develop broad expertise. As a result, I also work on more traditional international business taxation and support the Business Tax team with corporate income tax returns during the busy spring season.
"What motivates me in my work is continuous learning and the diversity of tasks. I learn something new all the time and have taken on more responsibility and challenging projects. Wonderful colleagues inspire me, and we have a great team spirit – many of us come to the office every day."
Over the past few years, I have worked on a wide range of transfer pricing projects, covering everything from transfer pricing planning to documentation and controversy. Most recently, my work has focused on business restructurings and providing support during tax audits. What particularly fascinates me about transfer pricing is its close connection to the client’s business. From a transfer pricing perspective, it is essential to have a deep understanding of the client’s operations as well as the industry in which they operate.
At Deloitte, I have had the chance to work with clients across various industries. This has helped me learn a lot, grow professionally and take on more responsibility over time. Learning is encouraged through various training programmes, and I have even taken part in transfer pricing training courses abroad, which have been great for expanding my skills and network.
International collaboration is a key part of our work culture. I am in daily contact with Deloitte offices in multiple countries, and English serves as our common working language. Our transfer pricing team at Deloitte Finland consists of around 15 professionals from different backgrounds, making it a truly international environment. Looking ahead, the collaboration between the Nordic transfer pricing teams will deepen further with the launch of the new Nordic Transfer Pricing practice at the start of the next fiscal year. This initiative will enhance opportunities for knowledge and resource sharing and will enable us to deliver even more comprehensive solutions to our clients.
The tax field is constantly evolving, and one of the most prominent developments right now is the rise of AI – mirroring trends across many other industries. AI is not only transforming our clients’ business operations but also reshaping tax requirements and practices. AI is also impacting on the regulatory side and will, for example, play a growing role in tax audit processes, highlighting the importance of staying adaptable and forward-thinking in our profession.
In this rapidly changing environment, we thrive with people who are curious to learn, want to develop quickly as professionals and enjoy working in a fast-paced work environment. Strong teamwork skills are also important. Moreover, as the importance of technological expertise is increasingly emphasised, having a genuine interest in leveraging technological tools is more important than ever.
"I value our coaching culture highly. My coach has significantly accelerated my
professional development and career progression. I hope to offer the same kind of support and encouragement to my own coaches."
The book I most recently read: I recently read The Shipping News by American author Annie Proulx. I enjoy books that tell stories about ordinary people and situations that are easy to relate to.
A secret skill that doesn't appear on my CV: I love making sourdough bread. I give bread as gifts, and at one point, I made all my bread from scratch instead of buying it. I started my sourdough starter during the pandemic, and I even have my own Instagram account dedicated to my sourdough breads.
My "happy place" in the world: My happy place is my summer cottage in Pälkäne. I just wish I had more time to complete all the projects I have planned there.
