As organizations accelerate their digital transformation and data maturity, this survey provides a comprehensive lens through which Chief Data Officers (CDOs) are reshaping their roles to derive strategic value and navigate emerging technologies like AI and Generative AI.
Evolving Roles and Strategic Priorities
This year's report unveils a significant paradigm shift: CDOs are assuming more strategic, influential roles in harnessing data value. As highlighted by 51% of CDOs, data governance remains a top priority. To conquer the competitive data landscape, mature organizations are zeroing in on AI/Generative AI (67%) and crafting data products (56%). Others continue fortifying foundational data capabilities.
Growing Teams and Budget Insights
CDOs are also expanding their teams, with 54% indicating growth in the last year and 63% projecting further expansion. Although data budgets have remained stable, an upward trend in enterprise data spend is perceptible.
Influence and Impact of CDOs
Despite 87% of CDOs reporting to the C-Suite, over half believe their influence lags behind their peers. Yet, an impending transformation in this dynamic is anticipated within the next five years. On a promising note, 64% of CDOs report substantial business impact from data-driven initiatives, particularly in AI and analytics, even as they navigate fiscal and resource constraints.
