Championing inclusion with Forbidden Colours

LGBTI-inclusive education can change lives

With fostering inclusion at the heart of Deloitte’s Purpose, we are proud to partner with Forbidden Colours. Together we have launched an LGBT+ Friendly School Ranking pilot project for secondary schools in Brussels.

Being able to discover and be your true self makes you a more confident and successful person, which is why it is crucial that schools make the effort to support LGBT+ students.

Forbidden Colours is a Belgium-based non-profit organisation that aims to empower people who identify as LGBT+ to fully live their lives in freedom with self-respect and dignity. The first LGBT+ fund hosted by the King Baudouin Foundation, Forbidden Colours fundraises, supports and executes high-impact projects across the EU related to education, integration, health, and work.

All students have the right to feel included, respected, and safe

Together, Deloitte and Forbidden Colours visit Brussels schools, engaging with teenagers and inviting them to rank the LGBT+ inclusivity of their high schools on an online platform. The schools learn about best practices in other schools, empowering them to even better support their students.

The Brussels pilot project is based on the huge success of the ‘Polish School Equality Map’, the first report of its kind launched by Forbidden Colours in 2020. With the help of Deloitte volunteers, Forbidden Colours launched its pilot project in Belgium, advocating for safe and comfortable environments at schools.

Fostering LGBT+ inclusion within the communities we serve and live in

We also continuously strive to enhance our inclusive environment by raising awareness and making allyship part of our everyday actions.

On 16 May, the evening before the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia & Transphobia, we will host a Deloitte Inspires devoted to highlighting the need to ensure sexual orientation is no longer a restraint. Deloitte, and by extension GLOBE, our internal community for LGBT+ people and allies, have invited Gabriel Goffoy, co-founder Forbidden Colours, to talk about LGBT+ inclusion. Gabriel will share his lived experiences, and how he turned challenges into opportunities to create a better world.

We continuously strive to enhance our inclusive environment by raising awareness and making allyship part of our everyday actions.
