What does that mean in practice?

Why is this important?

Why is this important?

These systems can adapt to changing conditions on the factory floor, optimise workflows in real time, and collaborate safely with human workers—reducing manual intervention while driving efficiency, flexibility, and resilience.

The future of work consists of mixed teams—humans and agentic AI working side by side. Humans lead, digital agents assist, forming a collaboration that boosts efficiency and innovation. Digital co-workers take on specific tasks within defined boundaries.

Andrew Swart is the Deloitte Global Energy, Resources & Industrials (ER&I) leader, responsible for setting the strategic direction and go-to-market approach for the ER&I practices across the Deloitte network. In addition to his global role, Andrew serves as the Canadian member firm’s ER&I Managing Partner and previously led Deloitte’s global Mining & Metals practice. With more than 30 years of industry and consulting experience, Andrew is passionate about client service and has worked across all four sectors – Energy & Chemicals, Mining & Metals, Industrial Products & Construction and Power & Utilities. He has served clients it 17 countries around the world including Brazil, Canada, Chile, China, Kazakhstan, Russia, South Africa, Switzerland, Ukraine, the United Kingdom, and the United States. He has advised C-Suite executives from leading ER&I companies on some of their most pressing strategic issues, including corporate and competitive strategy, innovation, and large organizational transformations. He also advises CEOs and boards on executive transitions and readiness. Having often worked at the intersection of business and government, Andrew has a unique understanding of the importance of this interface to ER&I organizations. Based in Toronto, Canada he has a BSc and an MSc in Chemical Engineering and an MBA.

He has more than 30 years of consulting experience, including in product lifecycle management, finance and HR transformation, supply chain and logistics, program management, and strategy definition. Having worked with some of the largest names in the sector, Jean-Louis currently focuses on innovation and the impact of digital on A&D organizations. Based in Paris, he is an active member of A&D associations and participates in such major events as the Paris Air Show and the Farnborough International Airshow.
