Recent Australian data breaches have exposed private and sensitive information of over 14.9 million Australians. Those impacted have had their identity documents compromised including: Medicare ID numbers, driver’s license numbers, Australian andinternational passport numbers and proof of age card numbers. Privacy and data risk is front of mind for trustees, regulators and super fund members alike, and the superannuation industry must work collectively to ensure they have the right frameworks and capabilities to manage these privacy and data risks.

Melissa has over 20 years’ experience in governance, risk, compliance and operations in financial services, specialising in superannuation. Melissa has held senior roles within the superannuation industry. She has strong experience working with trustees, specifically in respect of governance, compliance and risk management frameworks, and has led several superannuation-focused regulatory change programs, assisted operational change programs across both trustee businesses and superannuation operations, as well as multiple complex successor fund transfers of complex funds. Melissa provides subject matter expertise for superannuation fund internal audit and assurance reviews and has supported clients in the delivery of responses to APRA licensing conditions, covering risk management, insurance in superannuation, resourcing and outsourcing.

Cheryl is a technologist and lawyer who focusses on helping clients successfully deliver operating model transformation to improve user and customer experience. Cheryl has broad experience leading teams across technology, innovation and transformation programmes of work. She has advised government, healthcare, education and financial services clients across Australia and New Zealand on how to successfully leverage ICT to promote collaboration and innovation, build trust in society and solve important problems. Lucy Mannering

Lucy is a Partner in our Cyber Risk practice with a core focus on Privacy and Data Breach management within government and financial services. Lucy has seventeen years of privacy advisory experience and, having spent the first ten years of her career as a privacy specialist in government, has a deep understanding of the needs of government clients. Lucy also has extensive industry experience, having previously worked across senior roles within the privacy and risk domains, including as Group Privacy Officer for an ASX listed company. As a senior privacy leader, Lucy has implemented complex privacy change programs, including establishing and managing an industry best-in-class data breach function for another ASX listed company, as well as serving on the Group Crisis Management team as a data breach expert.
