Meet Denise Ounepaseuth

Data & AI Senior Consultant

Meet Denise, a Senior Consultant based in Sydney who is a member of our Data & AI team, which is part of the Strategy and AI practice in our Consulting Business Unit. She is passionate about listening deeply and diving into people’s minds to unpack complex issues.

So, tell us about a day in the life …

I started with Deloitte as a Vacationer more than a year before the ‘you-know-who’ virus struck the world. Throughout my time here, I’ve been given the opportunity to work in various industries with companies who operate in Financial Services, Telco, Health and Pharmaceuticals. I never thought I’d be interested in seeing how content and unstructured data are managed in these companies, and then showing these clients how Deloitte can make sense of and visualise this complex data into compelling dashboards by using our expertise and assets.

Outside of Deloitte I’m very much into pop culture and what will eventually be everything under Disney’s catalogue. Other than engulfing myself in films and TV shows, you will probably catch me hopping between PC gaming and the PlayStation 5, depending on which one keeps my attention for the longest. If I’m not staring at the screen, I’m probably out eating at a restaurant deemed to have satisfied the tastebuds of an influencer.

I joined Deloitte knowing it’s a hub for intelligence and culture. I have encountered the best colleagues who are genuinely keen to uplift my career. I’m really proud of the ways that Deloitte makes an impact that matters in society, including being a major sponsor for Sydney WorldPride 2023. Even though I’m one of many people who work here, I feel like I can make a difference.

It has also been interesting to discover my Business Chemistry, which is our version of Hogwarts’ Sorting Hat. It’s a great framework that allows people to grasp where others are coming from and identify meaningful differences between people’s working styles. The initiatives we drive go hand-in-hand with this culture of self-awareness, including the Inclusion, Diversity and Wellness team (which I’m a part of). We can make suggestions on how the firm could exhibit more inclusivity or celebrate diversity.

It’s in my nature to have a compelling desire to listen and deep dive into people’s minds; to really get into the cogs of the way they function. That’s part of my job, too. I also love the relationships I have been able to build with clients and colleagues who share the same values, which naturally leads to an innate feeling of walking towards the same endgame together. It’s during this journey that I learn and grow the most.

People often wonder if every day is the same here. It’s most definitely not! I face challenges one day, and then have moments where I’m excelling in an aspect, I never thought I could. Everything we do – on our best and worst days – is a state of mind. Deloitte has the best people here to support and uplift each other, no matter what. As the saying goes, ‘Do or do not, there is no try’ – Yoda.

  • Best Dad/Mum Joke? My partner bet me I couldn’t turn spaghetti into a car, you should have seen her face when I drove pasta.
