Meet Thy Douglas, a graduate of our Sustainability, Climate & Industrials team in Strategy, Risk & Transactions. Thy shares with us her journey to Deloitte and what her graduate year has been like.
Thy joined Deloitte in March 2024 as a Graduate in the Sustainability, Climate, and Industrials team. Her passion for sustainability stems from growing up in Australia, where she witnessed extreme droughts, devastating wildfires, and unpredictable weather patterns affecting communities, biodiversity, and the land. These experiences, along with a keen passion for youth-led international development and Australia’s role in addressing the climate crisis in the Asia Pacific, drove her to seek opportunities to build a secure, sustainable, and just future for all. Thy’s academic journey reflects this passion: she pursued a double degree in Arts/Commerce at Monash University, majoring in Sustainability and French studies. She worked and volunteered with various social impact organisations and consulting firms throughout her studies. She also participated in an exchange overseas studying climate diplomacy, followed by a year working at a carbon accounting firm in France. Here, she honed her expertise and confirmed her commitment to sustainability.
At Deloitte, Thy is working on an energy-from-waste project within the Circularity Team. She is helping develop a strategy for a technology that could revolutionise the way Australia manages waste and approaches landfill management. "It’s incredibly rewarding knowing that the work I’m doing today will help shape Australia’s future waste management and circularity practices," she shares.
A typical week for Thy is full of variety and excitement. "Every day is a new adventure," she explains. Her schedule usually begins with daily team meetings to strategise and check progress, followed by at least one client call each week—whether it’s a workshop to gather valuable insights or a catch-up to discuss progress and address questions. Beyond client engagements, Thy enjoys social events such as Lunch and Learns on climate topics, conferences, post-work drinks, early morning coffee catch-ups, and even the occasional trivia night. These opportunities allow her to network, upskill, and celebrate the wins alongside her dynamic team.
Outside of work, Thy is all about embracing the outdoors. Whether swimming, hiking, running, playing netball, or simply basking in the sun, she seizes any chance to be in nature and spend quality time with her loved ones.
Deloitte’s commitment to work-life balance and career development also resonates strongly with Thy. She loves that Deloitte encourages flexible working hours, allowing her to adjust her schedule to fit in extra-curricular activities that support her well-being. "For example, I can log on a bit earlier on a Wednesday morning to make it to my netball competition," she says.
"It’s beautiful to know that your career and yourself are being cared for and nurtured at work. This keeps me coming into the office every day..."
The unwavering commitment to coaching and mentorship has truly surprised Thy about working at Deloitte. "Deloitte is serious about coaching and mentorship. In everything we do, my career goals, progression, and well-being are always front of mind. It’s beautiful to know that your career and yourself are being cared for and nurtured at work. This keeps me coming into the office every day—knowing that my place in the company is valued and that they are here to invest in my future," she concludes.
