Meet Andrew Cromwell, Actuarial Manager

Meet Andrew, a Melbourne-based Manager who works in the Investments & Superannuation Advisory team within Deloitte’s Actuarial practice. He is eager to drive positive and impactful change in the banking & superannuation industries.

Every day is different and depends on the project you are working on at the time.

Personally, my days range from leading project meetings with client executives to ensure all project workstreams are running smoothly, to providing super and investment expertise as a subject matter expert (SME) in larger cross-team projects.

Your day will also depend on client needs. As an example, I’ve spent time at the client site on secondment because the client required hands-on project leadership. Secondments are also a great way to develop a deeper understanding of our clients and delivering a more meaningful impact in a team environment.

Outside of client work, there are many purposeful opportunities and initiatives to get involved in. For example, I’m a member of the Strategy & AI Talent Council and am also a Mentor in the firm’s Deloitte Women in Consulting initiative. Through these initiatives I’m helping the organisation explore how to work more collaboratively, support equality and encourage future leaders.

While I was undertaking my MBA, our Executive Consulting unit required students to run a live consulting project. The challenge was a food sustainability project with Deloitte Digital. After connecting weekly with the Deloitte Digital leaders and receiving their guidance on approach, modelling, analysis and rollout, it was very clear to me that Deloitte was the type of organisation I wanted to join.

Shortly after completing the MBA, a role came up in the Investments & Super team which I applied for. A major drawcard for me was that Deloitte has the largest Superannuation & Wealth Advisory practice in Australia.

You can’t beat the ‘I was part of that’ moment when a large impactful project reaches its conclusion. For projects I’m involved in, this could mean improved outcomes for potentially millions of superannuation members or bank customers.

Other reasons why I love my job include the mentally stimulating work, and the support and camaraderie provided by my colleagues at all levels. Deloitte as an organisation values their employees and has demonstrated this through a range of initiatives. Key examples include Deloitte Flex which is designed to promote flexible working, and summer Fridays which allows an early 3pm finish on all Fridays throughout January.

If you’re like me and get excited by the prospect of improving the superannuation system for millions of Australians or helping banks and fund managers better serve their customers, this is the right team to join.

For all the non-technical folk out there – you do not need to be a data prodigy to work within the Data & AI team. Deloitte has a skills-based approach to hiring. This means your expertise will be matched to compliment other project members.

By joining Deloitte, you will get the opportunity to work across teams, broaden your skills, gain access to genuine industry leaders and grow your network of like-minded professionals.
