Schalk is an Associate Director within the Financial Services Advisory (FSA) division of Deloitte Africa. He has 14 years of experience in quantitative and qualitative risk modelling, specialising in credit risk. His experience includes developing, refining, validating, and implementing Basel and IFRS 9 models.
Schalk has audited impairment models for compliance with the IFRS 9 standards. He has practical risk experience in corporate and investment banking (CIB) and retail and business banking (RBB) in the Southern African industry. He has developed pricing models and helped implement a new core banking system.
Schalk is also a part-time academic with a PhD in Mathematical Statistics who authored and co-authored 41 international peer-reviewed journal articles in Statistical Quality Control and Distribution Theory.
