Phozi is a senior manager, for customs and excise in the indirect tax team, with over 10 years' experience in the area of litigation, international trade, industrial policy, customs and excise; having worked at the South Gauteng High Court, Standard Bank Group, ITAC and the South African Revenue Service (SARS). During her time at SARS, she worked on the refining of the (yet to be implemented) Customs Duty and Customs Control Acts. Phozi was part of the team that drafted the rules to all Customs Legislation. In 2018, she was appointed (by the President in terms of the ITA Act) to serve as a Part-Time Commissioner at ITAC where she used her expertise and experience to make decisions on investigations conducted by ITAC.
