Bernard is an Associate member of the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and holds BIuris, LLB, LLM, and HDip Tax Degrees. He is a tax and exchange control lawyer by profession with over 16 years of experience in the tax and dispute resolution field in the private and public sector.
Bernard was a tax lawyer at CMS South Africa, and prior to that, he held the role of Group Executive in charge of dispute resolution and tax litigation nationally for the South African Revenue Service.
He was a member of the General Anti-Avoidance Rules (GAAR) Committee, a member of the Advance Tax Ruling (ATR) Committee and was also involved in the review of the Tax Court Rules and recommended amendments thereto where necessary.
