As a major highlight, Deloitte served as the anchor sponsor of the 17th Global Space Technology Convention & Exhibition (GSTCE) in February 2025. The GSTCE is Asia’s leading space industry event. 

Together with the Singapore Space & Technology Think Tank, Deloitte launched ‘Space to Thrive: Southeast Asia’s Space Industry on the Rise’ at the event. This landmark report explores the commercial potential of space technology applications to benefit life on Earth, as well as the sector’s likely impact on Southeast Asian economies. It highlights the US$100 billion potential economic benefit to the region by 2030 across sectors such as agriculture, oil and gas, sustainable finance, smart cities and disaster monitoring, positioning space as a key enabler of innovation for non-space industries. We created a major talking point in Singapore, with extensive media coverage. 

As anchor sponsor of GSTCE, Deloitte played a significant role in designing the event and shaping the conversation. Deloitte Space leaders from across the US and Asia Pacific came to Singapore to share insights across four panels. These leaders also attended a dedicated financial services workshop and met clients – resulting in several project leads. 

The report launch marked the start of a three-year collaboration where Deloitte will continue to serve as a GSTCE anchor partner, bringing insights and expertise from our global network of scientists, technologists, and advisers supporting clients in more than 15 countries.

Technip Energies, a global technology and engineering powerhouse, sought to centralise its payment operations to enhance control and mitigate fraud risks. It also wanted to automate its treasury functions for greater efficiency. 

To this end, Technip Energies engaged a cross-functional team from Deloitte SEA to lead the implementation of a global payments factory initiative. Anchored in Southeast Asia, the project will be progressively rolled out across the organisation. 

Given the complexity of integrating diverse payment processes, our team is adopting a ‘follow the sun’ approach – that is, prioritising the most challenging locations first to streamline subsequent deployments. The end-to-end implementation of Technip Energies’ global payment factory comprise pre-deployment advisory and deployment advisory support, as well as project and change management components.

Faced with the Inland Revenue Board of Malaysia’s (IRBM’s) mandate to implement e invoicing from August 2024, our client, a leading agri-business player in Malaysia, needed to integrate its existing SAP ECC and S/4HANA enterprise resource planning systems with the IRBM’s MyInvois portal. This integration also had to ensure data security, compatibility and smooth interaction with the various systems used by the client’s suppliers, customers and other stakeholders.

Deloitte’s cross-business team was engaged to design, build, test and deploy a customised SAP plug-in solution that would enable the client’s Malaysia-based entities to fully comply with IRBM’s requirements.

The solution we designed delivers broader benefits beyond regulatory compliance. It streamlines and standardises invoicing processes, improves operational efficiency and enables more timely, accurate reporting.

Strategically, our client has also gained long-term value through a relatively lower total cost of ownership. Unlike other options, our solution involves a one-time implementation cost with no recurring licensing or hardware expenses. As system maintenance and support can now be managed in-house, our solution also offers our client greater control.

In April 2025, Indonesia’s telecommunications landscape was reshaped by the merger of XL Axiata and Smartfren, forming XLSMART. Deloitte was entrusted with leading the post-merger integration (PMI) to support the joint venture between parent companies Axiata and Sinar Mas, which combines Axiata’s global telco expertise with Sinar Mas’ extensive local network.

With a pre-synergy combined valuation of US$6.5 billion, projected revenue of US$2.8 billion, EBITDA of US$1.4 billion and expected annual pre-tax synergies of US$300–400 million, this is one of Southeast Asia’s most significant telco consolidations.

At the heart of our role is the design and orchestration of an integration management office that oversees 13 workstreams and 90 sub-workstreams across functions including network, IT, procurement and commercial. Deloitte’s Technology & Transformation team in Malaysia was engaged by automotive and industrial equipment powerhouse Sime to help it develop a refreshed brand strategy in line with its strengthened focus on its core businesses as well as its shift towards a more customer-centric and digital organisation. 

With a heritage rooted in plantations and property, Sime (formerly Sime Darby) saw an opportunity to evolve its brand to better reflect its position as a leading player across the automotive and industrial equipment sectors. While its legacy was strong, the company recognised the need to build an identity that mirrored its evolved portfolio and ambitions.

To bring this transformation to life, we worked closely with Sime’s teams across key Asia Pacific markets – namely, Australasia, China, and Southeast Asia – to conduct an in-depth brand sensing exercise. This included customer and stakeholder interviews, operations immersions, market surveys and collaborative workshops. 

Together, we co-created a forward-looking brand narrative and a differentiated value proposition. Our work also involved optimising the brand portfolio and delivering a bold new logo and tagline. These have been successfully launched across B2B and B2C channels to energise internal teams and engage external audiences.

As businesses face increasing pressure to respond to climate-related risks and regulatory expectations, Deloitte is supporting leading organisations across Southeast Asia to integrate sustainability into core business strategy and risk management.

In the Philippines, global food service giant Jollibee Foods Corporation (JFC) appointed Deloitte’s Audit & Assurance team to conduct a comprehensive physical climate risk assessment across its operations in the Philippines, China, North America and Vietnam. The assessment covers more than 6,600 assets across 13 brands and 33 key facilities. Once completed, it will be embedded into JFC’s enterprise risk management framework, enabling the company to identify, prioritise and mitigate asset-level climate risks. It will also enhance business continuity amid increasingly frequent climate disruptions.

Work under the engagement aligns with IFRS S2 Climate-related Disclosures and other global sustainability standards. It is being delivered in two phases: a baseline assessment and peer benchmarking exercise, followed by a facility-level scenario analysis of climate hazards such as flooding, extreme heat and sea-level rise. The analysis includes financial impact modelling and the development of actionable risk mitigation strategies, which will lay the groundwork for JFC’s long-term climate reporting and resilience planning.

In a similar effort, San Miguel Global Power (SMGP), a major player in the Philippines’ energy sector, engaged Deloitte to assess climate risks and opportunities across its portfolio. The multi-phased engagement includes qualitative and quantitative assessments of physical and transition risks, as well as a data gap analysis to support alignment with national and international sustainability reporting standards. This work is key to strengthening SMGP’s climate resilience and enhancing transparency for investors and regulators.

In Thailand, Deloitte is helping SCB X Public Company Limited (SCBX) – the holding company of one of Thailand’s largest financial groups – to meet the Bank of Thailand’s new expectations for climate-related risk stress testing, which is an initial phase for climate risk integration. SCBX appointed Deloitte to support several key subsidiaries in developing a long-term environment, social and governance (ESG) risk assessment framework that aligns with the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures and International Sustainability Standards Board guidelines and other stakeholder expectations. 

Through the engagement, we will undertake a comprehensive gap analysis of ESG frameworks, develop a tailored ESG risk assessment tool, and identify recommendations on key risk indicators.

In March 2025, Deloitte released the Southeast Asia edition of its 2025 Asia Pacific Private Equity Almanac, offering data-driven insights, trend analysis and commentary on the region’s evolving investment landscape.

This publication builds on the success of the first edition of the Asia Pacific Private Equity Almanac and has been shaped by valuable feedback from the market. New to this year’s report is a standalone supplement focusing on the Southeast Asia market, reflecting its significance and enduring attractiveness to investors. 

The Southeast Asia edition draws on Deloitte’s proprietary database of private equity (PE) funds to provide a detailed picture of regional PE activity in 2024, alongside an analysis of key themes and the outlook for 2025. It delivers unique insights into a market that remains difficult to track holistically and accurately due to its opaque nature. It also positions Deloitte as a trusted value creation advisor, supporting clients across the entire PE ownership lifecycle.

In conjunction with the launch, the Deloitte Philippines Strategy, Risk & Transactions team hosted its inaugural Private Equity Forum on 3 April at The Peak, Grand Hyatt Manila. Sam Padgett, Deloitte Asia Pacific Private Equity Origination Leader, shared key findings and emerging trends shaping the 2025 PE outlook, with a spotlight on the Philippines’ investment trajectory over the past decade.  Sam was joined by Jamil Raza Syed, Private Equity Leader, Deloitte SEA and Stephen Sieh, Strategy, Risk & Transactions Leader, Deloitte Philippines, who offered perspectives on the local PE environment. The forum concluded with an engaging Q&A and networking session, connecting industry peers and Deloitte leaders in a dynamic exchange of ideas on the evolving PE landscape in the Philippines.
