Green program of cooperation between science and industry
We hereby inform you that the Science Fund of the Republic of Serbia (hereinafter: the Science Fund) with the consent of the Government of the Republic of Serbia (hereinafter: the Government) has issued a Public Call for applications for scientific research projects within the Green program of cooperation between science and industry (hereinafter: Program) within which grants are awarded, with the application deadline no later than October 11, 2022.
The total available grants for the implementation of the Program amount to EUR 3,500,000 while the maximum budget of an individual project is EUR 200,000.
The goal of the Program is to support applied research in all scientific fields that will result in patents, patent applications, technical solutions, copyrighted works and related to the assigned topics of the Program, including the design and development of socially useful technologies, products and services.
Topics of the Program
The Program stipulates that projects can relate to one of the following topics, classified into three categories:
1. Air, water and soil
• Reduction of emissions of major air pollutants;
• Improving procedures for sustainable and efficient water consumption;
• Reduction of water pollution in industry, agriculture and households;
• Reduction of surface and underground water pollution;
• Sustainable management of water resources with the aim of ecologically improving rivers and water bodies;
• Reduction of pesticide pollution of soil, water and air;
• Restoration of degraded ecosystems;
• Reduction of environmental pollution with persistent organic pollutants, microplastic, waste and other harmful and persistent substances in products;
• Improving procedures for cleaning up the polluted environment;
• Elimination of the consequences of emergency situations on the quality of the environment.
2. Industry
• Development of circular agriculture with minimal environmental pollution;
• Reducing the use of micro-pollutants such as microplastic, including pharmaceuticals;
• Sustainable industrial systems, cleaner technologies, and improved business models that reduce environmental pollution and positively affect consumer habits;
• Increasing energy efficiency with the neutralization of harmful gases, taking into account the spread of the “polluter pays” principle;
• An innovative approach in the digital transformation of the way regulators and industry deal with emissions of harmful gases and substances, such as remote sensing, artificial intelligence and machine learning;
• The design and use of chemicals, materials and products that more reliably retain the desired non-toxic properties throughout their life cycle.
3. Waste
• Management of waste, plastic materials, waste electrical and electronic equipment, batteries, hazardous chemicals, persistent organic pollutants and heavy metals;
• The impact of waste on the health of people, animals and plants.
Participants of Program
The Program is intended for persons who are employed in accredited scientific and research organizations in Serbia, while accredited scientific and research organizations in Serbia (in the capacity of Project Holder or in the capacity of Project Participants) have the right to participate in the Program if they had an income of at least EUR 300,000 in the last 5 years.
Implementation of the Program
The Program is implemented in two phases:
The first phase, lasting 24 months, involves the development of technology, products of services.
The second (optional) phase (for which a separate Public Call will be announced later), lasting 12 months, is implemented with the aim of commercializing the project results and includes immediate preparation for the application of the research results.1
Only projects that achieve the objectives of the Program during the first phase and meet the prerequisites for the commercialization of project results will be eligible for financial support in the second phase.
1 In order to qualify for financial support for the implementation of the project in the second phase, the Project Holder must, before the end of the first phase, provide financial co-financing of his project for the second phase. Monetary co-financing is provided by one or more economic entities in an amount not less then 10% of the total value of the project budget financed by the Science Fund.
Allowable expenses
Funds intended for the implementation of the Program may be used for the following costs:
• Compensation of team members,
• Costs of purchasing equipment, consumables, short trips in the country and abroad that are necessary for the realization of the project, costs of publication of papers in journals, organization of conferences and seminars, patent applications,
• Costs of services and subcontractors,
• Other costs (for example bank guarantee, import costs, customs, postage).
