A national emergency
At the peak of the Covid-19 pandemic, the Dutch ICU-capacity was stretched to its limits. This national emergency begged the question: how can we help free up ICU-capacity for the most serious cases, while less ill patients receive adequate care elsewhere?
Together with medics from Erasmus MC, Rotterdam, our consultants, data scientists and software developers forged an algorithm that predicts whether a Covid-19 patient will develop complications related to pulmonary embolism. Time and life saving algorithm
The breakthrough in the multi-disciplinary collaboration between our specialists and Erasmus MC was in the algorithm’s predictive power: two days in advance and with 87% accuracy. Saving doctors and nurses precious time and, ultimately, patients’ lives.
Use of the algorithm at Erasmus MC, has decreased stress on the intensive care units and significantly improved the life-expectancy of a specific group of COVID-19 patients. It’s in this fruitful collaboration that we see a clear pointer to the future of healthcare. Where early diagnostics can help us prevent certain illnesses or complications before they arise, while making public healthcare more effective and sustainable.
