Deloitte's Retail Sector Group is pleased to present its annual survey of consumer trends in supermarkets. With this research, we map out developments in consumer behaviour so that you can respond to them with your business operations.
The Consumer Research shows that 75% of consumers have changed their purchasing behaviour as a result of price increases. More and more consumers are paying attention to offers when shopping their weekly groceries in the supermarket. For example, more and more people are looking at a digital folder at least once a week (2023: 44%, 2022: 40%).
Furthermore, the Consumer Research provides insight into the trends regarding self-checkouts. The use of self-scanning services in supermarkets is increasing and as many as eight out of ten consumers use them. It is striking that the majority of consumers think it is good that checks take place (91%). However, 20 per cent finds it annoying when they are being checked themselves.
