Malta Enterprise has re-launched the Rent Subsidy Scheme, (hereinafter “the Scheme”), intended to support undertakings engaged in industrial activities, that require industrial space in order to start a new business, expand operations, optimise supply chains, or diversify processes.

Applications under the Scheme may be submitted by 31 October 2030.

Eligible undertakings and aid intensity

 

Eligible undertakings satisfying a number of criteria, including the requirement that they employ less than 250 employees on a full time basis, may receive a subsidy in relation to the rental costs of an eligible business premises, required in order to carry out one or more of the following qualifying activities:

a) Manufacturing activities;
b) Artisanal activities;
c) Industrial packaging activities;
d) Maintenance and repairs of motor vehicles;
e) Repair of machinery and electrical equipment; or
f) Warehousing and logistics activities incidental to the above.

The subsidy, which may be claimed as a cash grant and/or tax credits with a validity of 5 years, shall cover 50% of the rental costs up to a maximum subsidy of €50,000 per year, for the first 3 years of an eligible new rental agreement. The capping is subject to an overall capping for de minimis assistance of €300,000 over a rolling period of three consecutive fiscal years for a single undertaking.

In addition, the Scheme may support new rentals for premises required for short-term storage of goods, in order to mitigate supply fluctuations and other market disruptions. Such support would be limited to a maximum period of 1 year.
