The Family Business Grant, (hereinafter, the ‘Scheme’), has been launched by Malta Enterprise on 1 June 2024, to support eligible registered family businesses in their succession plans. The Scheme provides part financing of advisory and mediation services required by family businesses in facilitating and planning the transition of ownership from one generation to the next.
The maximum support under the Scheme is capped at €20,000 per family business over any rolling three-year period. Family businesses may request support for:
i) Advisory services from appointed advisors approved by the Family Business Office, to establish a succession plan for the business, with a grant of 50% of advisory costs up to a maximum grant of €2,500 per advisory project; and
ii) Mediation services from appointed mediators approved by the Family Business Office, with a grant based on an hourly rate of up to €100 per hour for a maximum of 25 hours per approval.
Support may only be requested after the undertaking contacts the Family Business Office and agrees on the applicable measures required by the business in planning for succession or in relation to mediation services required, as applicable. Support may only be awarded in respect of new advisory/mediation services which address the outcomes agreed to with the Family Business Office and which commence after such endorsement.
Applications under the Scheme must be submitted within two months of the signing of the agreement with the advisor/mentor. Applications shall be accepted until 31 October 2030.
