Malta Enterprise has launched the updated Get Qualified Scheme, hereinafter ‘the Scheme’ for 2026, continuing its commitment to support the personal and professional development of individuals enhancing their knowledge through certifications and qualifications.

This Scheme enables individuals to recover a significant portion of costs incurred for approved tuition and certifications, with additional benefits available for those who obtain higher education qualifications and specialise in STEM subjects.

Key updates for 2026

The Scheme, which entered into force on 1 January 2026, introduced several important updates:

  • Eligibility window: The Scheme applies to any Relevant Award attained on or after 1 January 2026.
  • Transitional provisions: Individuals who commenced a course prior to 1 January 2026 may request support based on the parameters of the predecessor 2017–2025 scheme. A formal request declaring this intention must be submitted by 31 December 2026, with attainment confirmed by 31 December 2030.
  • State aid: Part-time self-employed, full-time self-employed or employed individuals who request support in relation to a course of studies related to their current work, are subject to de minimis state aid rules and are deemed to be a ‘single undertaking’ for the purpose of the scheme
  • Get Qualified tax credit: Eligible individuals may recover up to 70% of eligible costs, including registration and tuition fees, utilisable over 15 fiscal years.
  • Attainment bonus tax credit: A separate, additional tax credit is available upon the attainment of specific qualifications deemed relevant to national economic objectives, including Masters and Doctoral degrees, and STEM-related qualifications.
  • Application limit: Applicants are restricted to four applications within any rolling five-year period. Applications must be submitted within 12 months of course completion.
