Workshop: Sector-specific guidance for financial reporting transformation
Malta's gaming sector communicates performance through measures developed within the industry rather than specified by accounting standards. IFRS 18 brings a number of them within the audited financial statements.
IFRS 18 Presentation and Disclosure in Financial Statements replaces IAS 1 and applies to periods beginning on or after 1 January 2027, with comparatives restated. It was endorsed for use in the European Union in February 2026. The standard does not change recognition or measurement, although it may change what an entity reports as operating profit.
IFRS 18 may initially present as a matter of format. Its effects are more substantial: it influences the composition of the operating result, and requires revenue and cost to be capable of analysis at a level of granularity most gaming ledgers were not built to provide.
Chief financial officers, financial controllers, group reporting managers and heads of finance at MGA-licensed operators, business-to-business suppliers and gaming holding structures.
Two-hour working session, held at Deloitte, Central Business District, Birkirkara. Attendance is limited to 15 participants.
Participants will leave with a view of the decisions required in their sector, the matters that remain open, and the steps to be completed before the comparative period closes.
Two structured hours in core competency.
