Mitigating and adapting to the impacts of climate change are monumental tasks. The climate crisis is a risk to society at large, to our organisation and to our clients across the private and public sectors. Progress is possible and we must take urgent action, acting collectively and individually to make changes to help reduce our greenhouse gas emissions. Deloitte is helping to lead the way towards a low-carbon future by guiding our clients on their sustainability journeys, advancing meaningful actions and change within our own operations and supply chain, and collaborating with non-profits and civil society.
The shift towards a net-zero economy is imperative as we mitigate future risks, meet the expectations of our stakeholders and support the continued prosperity of the communities we serve. Deloitte is dedicated to playing a leading role in helping drive this transition to a sustainable future.
- Joe Ucuzoglu, Deloitte Global CEO
Deloitte demonstrates its commitment to climate action through our WorldClimate ambition and net-zero by 2040 target. In 2020 Deloitte set near-term science-based targets and in 2024 we added long-term targets. Deloitte’s net-zero by 2040 target is inclusive of our near- and long-term targets and has been validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). Our net-zero by 2040 target is consistent with the Paris Agreement goal to limit global warming to 1.5°C.
Each industry will require business transformation to reach net-zero, including the professional services industry. Deloitte is implementing policies and transformation programmes to reduce our emissions 90% by 2040. This means reducing the emissions arising from how we work, the technology we use to do our work, the offices in which we work, and more.
Deloitte’s supply chain is the largest source of our emissions. Through targeted supplier engagement efforts, we continue to influence our suppliers to set SBTs, we collaborate with them on emissions reduction, and we work together to advance product-level emissions reporting. Our dedicated sustainability team within procurement directly supports our efforts to reach our near- and long-term targets across the supply chain lifecycle, from supplier selection to contracting and engagement.
Deloitte is also committed to supporting its people and the broader community to take collective and individual action and to make responsible climate choices. While the journey will be complex and unpredictable, we are committed to embracing these challenges head-on and working collectively toward a sustainable future within our organisation and with our clients and suppliers.
Deloitte continues to advance our commitments to the three core initiatives of the Climate Group, which support the advancement of renewable electricity (RE100), electric vehicle (EV) adoption (EV100), and energy efficiency/productivity (EP100). We earned an A- rating from CDP for our FY2023 response to its climate change questionnaire. In September 2024, Deloitte’s net-zero target received third-party validation from the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).
We recognise that business leadership and collective action is critical to addressing the climate crisis. Deloitte Sustainability is uniquely positioned to help organisations as they redefine their strategies, embed sustainability into their operations, consider tax implications, navigate disclosure and regulatory requirements, and help accelerate their transformation to drive long-term value creation.
The third edition of Deloitte's 2024 CxO Sustainability Report Survey over 2,100 executives across 27 countries on their views and strategies related to Sustainability and climate change, finding more organisations are increasing their Sustainability investments, as climate change continues to be one of the top three priorities for global C-suite level business leaders (CxOs).
