Meet Liza, a returned Alumni

At Deloitte, opportunities to learn and grow are a big part of our employee promise.

We spoke to Liza Farrugia, a returned Deloitte Alumni, to hear about her journey at Deloitte.

Meet Liza, a returned Alumni

My journey at Deloitte began in July 2000 as a graduate in accountancy. The first main role was working in the direct/indirect tax compliance service offering. Under the guidance of my senior manager, this developed from an individual effort into two small teams, one focused on direct tax compliance and the other on indirect tax compliance.

I then transitioned to a relationship tax manager for a prominent gaming group providing tax and corporate services. Before taking a career break in January 2019, my final role within the Tax function was as Business Risk Leader.

In August 2020, I returned to Deloitte into a completely new role and area joining the HR team and being entrusted with establishing a learning and development practice.

It seemed as if I had never left the firm, but rather had been on a lengthy break. I received a warm welcome and was completely revitalised to embark on this new venture with my team members in the learning function and the broader Human Resources team.

Our strength lies in Deloitte’s network, which offers us elevated expertise across numerous areas coupled with the resources like Deloitte People Network (DPN), Cura, PairD and Knowledge Exchange (KX) just to name a few, which are available for everyone to use. This is further reinforced by diverse work opportunities and flexibility.

I value the collaborative nature of projects which involves working with individuals having diverse expertise who contribute a varied pool of ideas and skills to a project.

I am looking forward to continue developing our learning practice with my team while also exploring and collaborating on the upcoming opportunities resulting from Deloitte’s growth trajectory.

Deloitte is a dynamic group where growth opportunities are at the order of the day. In such an agile environment, this is an essential element to secure your future of work.
