International Women’s Day 2023

Celebrating the achievements of women and raising awareness on gender balance #ImAWomanAnd #EmbraceEquity

March 8 is International Women’s Day (IWD) – dedicated to celebrating the achievements of women and raising awareness on gender equality.

At Deloitte Middle East (DME), we take this opportunity to reflect on our progress and continued commitment toward gender diversity. In alignment with the Deloitte Global IWD theme: “I’m a woman and…” a statement which calls attention to the assumptions and stereotypes of women in the workplace and beyond. DME works to address and defy stereotypes and perceptions head-on, spotlighting the many contributions of women in our communities.

“March 8 has special significance for women advancement as International Women’s Day. But it can only be a worthy day of celebrations and honouring women achievements if every year there is evident progress in eradicating inequities in women's rights and representation, in effectively addressing violence and abuse against women, and in advancing gender equality at work and in the wider society. At Deloitte, we are committed to an inclusive culture where all our women can thrive, and we are committed to advancing gender diversity and accelerating women representation in leadership levels. This is not a choice; it is an ethical and business imperative”, said Rana Salhab, DME People and Purpose Partner.

In celebration of International Women’s Day 2023, DME introduces a new gender diversity strategy, GLOW; Growth and Leadership Opportunities for Women. As part of its ongoing commitment to supporting and amplifying gender equality, representation and advancement in the region, GLOW seeks to mitigate systemic bias in the workplace, and to promote policies which engage, develop and support women within the Firm. The new strategy, which aims to further the Firm’s commitment to fostering inclusivity, will include the existing programs which promote gender balance such as mentorship, sponsorship and allyship and build new programs which respond to the changing business demands, while still ensuring an exceptional employee experience.

GLOW is just one component of the efforts made by the Firm which will accelerate female leadership and spark an impact in gender inclusive practices across the region.

Making an impact that matters, through diversity ambitions and a pledge to gender balance, remains one of the top priorities for Deloitte Middle East. With the launch of GLOW, there continues to be a persistent effort to accelerate progress in inclusive practices across the region.

This year’s Deloitte Global IWD 2023 theme is #ImAWomanAnd. Women can be and do anything. And yet societal stereotypes about women – who they are and what they should do – still exist.

The #ImAWomanAnd campaign is a call to action – for each of us to commit to playing our part in stopping the assumptions that are still too often made about women. DME continues its commitment to calling out stereotypes and #EmbraceEquity together.

With that, we are proud to share the “Voices Beyond the Glass Ceiling” video series which includes our remarkable DME Female Partners as they continue to defy stereotypes, embrace equity and spark their impact :

Keep an eye out for Deloitte Middle East’s impactful social media campaign and be sure to join the conversation with your commitment to help stop stereotypes!
