The quest for workforce capability

Create a global skills supply chain

Organisations now compete globally for scarce technical and professional skills. How can you locate and develop this talent when it takes years to develop expertise?

Given the complexities and continuous disruptions in the global economy, it’s no surprise that building global workforce capability emerged as a top three challenge in our survey. Engineers, computer and life scientists, oil and gas professionals, and cyber security specialists are among the many technical professionals in short supply around the world. Organisations are feeling the pinch. But while 75% of those we surveyed rate “workforce capability” as an urgent or important challenge, only 15% believe they are ready to address it.

In 2014 organisations should tap into external talent networks, better share expertise, build skills internally and create a supply chain of skills to build the capabilities they need now and into the future. Companies that succeed in building a global skills supply chain will be positioned to excel in innovation and performance.
