ViDA presents a pivotal milestone for the European Union’s VAT system, promising to leverage digitalization to simplify tax processes, reduce bureaucracy, and enhance transparency and compliance.

One may think ViDA is still far away in the future, or that not everyone will be impacted.

However, the rise of mandates requiring neighbouring countries to implement e-invoicing within the next two to five years shows that mandatory e-invoicing is set to impact everyone, across industries, including the Financial Sector—from local enterprises to those operating across the EU, and sooner rather than later.

While the road to the final version of the ViDA Directive has not been a straight line, it is here now, for sure. It is important for all of us to understand the content, anticipate the impacts, and define an appropriate strategy.

Joachim Bailly

Joachim is the lead partner of Deloitte Luxembourg's Indirect Tax practice. He has a broad experience in advising on the structuring of regulated and unregulated funds, including private equity, real estate, debt and infrastructure funds. Joachim also has a significant experience in advising clients in the FSI industry on a wide variety of VAT issues including the design of special deduction methodologies, the set up of cost sharing structures as well as VAT dispute resolution. Joachim is graduated in business law / tax law from Université Paris I Panthéon-Sorbonne & Université Paris II Panthéon-Assas and was a member of the Luxembourg Bar Association prior to joining Deloitte Luxembourg.
