The Beyond Conference, held in January 2025 at Deloitte Luxembourg’s headquarters, welcomed European Parliament President Roberta Metsola and Luxembourg Prime Minister Luc Frieden, who shared their perspectives on the future of Europe and Luxembourg. Bringing together 200 leaders from the public and private sectors, the event marked the first in a series of celebrations for Deloitte Luxembourg’s 75th anniversary and reaffirmed the firm’s commitment to supporting leaders, policymakers, and innovators in shaping the region’s future.
The evening commenced with opening remarks from John Psaila, who reflected on the firm’s legacy and its longstanding role in fostering dialogue that drives progress. As Deloitte Luxembourg marks 75 years of achievements, it remains dedicated to helping business leaders, policymakers, and entrepreneurs navigate the evolving challenges and opportunities shaping Europe’s future.
During the event, President Roberta Metsola offered insights into the recently published Competitiveness Compass, a strategic framework designed to guide Europe’s transformation in the coming years. She emphasised the importance of strengthening Europe’s competitiveness, reinforcing democratic resilience, and embracing sustainability as a key driver of economic growth.
In his address, Prime Minister Luc Frieden provided a Luxembourg-focused perspective, outlining how the country is preparing to address emerging economic realities while capitalising on opportunities for innovation and investment. He reflected on Luxembourg’s role within the EU, highlighting how its financial sector, commitment to sustainability, and innovation ecosystem contribute to Europe’s broader economic landscape.
The highlight of the evening was a conversation between President Metsola and Prime Minister Frieden, moderated by John Psaila. Their exchange delivered a sharp analysis of Europe’s current trajectory and Luxembourg’s evolving place within it. Key themes included global trade and investment, the resilience of democratic institutions, sustainability as an engine of growth, regulatory balance, energy security, and Europe’s response to the innovation gap in AI and deep tech. The discussion also explored how European regulation can support business competitiveness while upholding high standards, and how sustainability policies can evolve from a compliance burden into a catalyst for investment. The session concluded with a call to action for leaders to take decisive steps in shaping Europe’s future.
