Colourtex Industries

About

Colourtex Industries Pvt Ltd, founded in 1967, is a leading Surat-based manufacturer of dyestuffs and performance chemicals. The company began dyestuff production in 1976 at Pandesara, an industrial suburb of Surat, and has since grown into the largest dyestuff producer in the Indian subcontinent. Today, Colourtex serves over 2,000 customers across the textile and leather industries, supported by a robust nationwide marketing and technical service network.

Problem

Colourtex had been using an in-house software solution to manage its end-to-end HR processes, from hire to retire. However, the system faced significant scalability challenges and struggled to keep up with the organisation’s rapid growth. Some of the challenges faced by the client were:

Fragmented HR processes

  • Manual or siloed systems lead to inconsistent data and workflows.
  • Lack of integration between recruitment, onboarding, performance and learning.

Limited visibility and reporting

  • Difficulty in generating real-time insights or analytics.
  • Poor visibility into workforce trends, attrition risks and talent gaps.

Compliance risks

  • Higher chances of non-compliance with local labour laws and global regulations.
  • Manual tracking of audits and certifications increases risk exposure.

Reduced employee engagement

  • Lack of self-service tools and mobile access.
  • Poor user experience can lead to disengagement and lower productivity.

Inefficient talent management

  • No centralised system for tracking skills, performance or succession planning.
  • Missed opportunities for internal mobility and leadership development.

Higher operational costs

  • Manual processes require more HR personnel and time.
  • Increased costs due to inefficiencies and duplication of efforts.

Scalability challenges

  • Difficult to scale HR operations across geographies and business units.
  • Inflexible systems hinder growth and agility.

Delayed decision-making

  • Lack of real-time data slows down strategic HR decisions.
  • Inability to respond quickly to market or workforce changes.

Solution

The Deloitte India team led the SuccessFactors implementation, guiding module selection and ensuring health and hazard processes were optimised through custom BTP applications. The implementation was accelerated using proprietary assets, such as HRMS Enhancer, Data Lens and Payroll Comparison Tool, along with reusable components and bots that efficiently updated configuration workbooks to maintain accurate documentation.

  • Occupational Health Centre (OHC): This application assesses employees’ physical and mental fitness for factory tasks, supporting pre-employment evaluations and periodic health check-ups to ensure safe and effective operation in industrial environments.
  • Outpatient Department (OPD): By centralising and maintaining employees’ medical records, this application ensures accurate and up-to-date health data, supporting proactive monitoring and compliance with occupational health standards.
  • Personal Protection Equipment (PPE): By streamlining PPE allocation and management, this application improves efficiency with accurate data, enhanced usability and robust tracking while ensuring transparent, traceable issuance and effective monitoring of employee safety gear across the organisation.
  • Employee History View (EHV): By integrating data from SuccessFactors modules, including Employee Central, time management, learning, and performance and goals, this application gives a comprehensive view of an employee’s work history. It offers both summary insights and detailed visual reports to support informed decision-making throughout the employee life cycle.
  • Shift Roster Attendance Correction-Application: Designed to streamline shift planning and attendance management, this application handles monthly schedules through mass uploads and ad-hoc manual entries. It features a comprehensive attendance dashboard with details on working hours, canteen time and attendance status, along with tools for missing punch uploads and replicating previous month’s shifts.

Impact

  • Employee Central unified all employee data, eliminating silos and duplication. It automated key HR processes to increase efficiency and provided mobile self-service access, improving accessibility and engagement across the organisation.
  • Implementation of SuccessFactors Recruiting and Onboarding accelerated hiring, enhanced the candidate experience and ensured compliant, timely onboarding. It is supported by BTP applications, such as the Occupational Health Centre and Outpatient Department, for efficient health-related workflows essential to Colourtex.
  • The performance module was integrated with Learning and Employee Central to enable a unified talent management approach. A custom BTP app, Employee History Viewer (EHV), consolidated data from Employee Central, time management, learning, and performance and goals into a single platform, providing dashboards and detailed reports to support timely, informed decisions across the employee life cycle.
  • Attendance tracking was automated by integrating classroom training with biometric punch data, enabling accurate monitoring of mandatory compliance sessions. This real-time validation improved audit readiness and strengthened regulatory compliance, crucial for high-governance environments such as Colourtex.
  • Real-time tracking of attendance, shifts and leave balances improved workforce visibility and operational efficiency. Custom BTP apps for shift uploads, punch corrections and attendance reporting provided employees and managers with timely and reliable data, streamlining operations and ensuring policy compliance.
