Welcome to the 24th edition of Global Powers of Retailing. The report identifies the 250 largest retailers around the world based on publicly available data for FY2019 (fiscal years ended through 30 June 2020), and analyzes their performance across geographies and product sectors. It also provides a global economic outlook, looks at the 50 fastest-growing retailers, and highlights new entrants to the Top 250.

New facts include:

Walmart continues to lead the list of the world’s Top 250 global retailers for over 20 years while Amazon becomes the number two global retailer.

India’s leading retailer Reliance Retail jumped 3 points on the Top 250 list based on retail revenue growth for FY 2019 and has ranked 53rd on the chart.

Retailers based in the Asia Pacific region increased their share of the global Top 250 revenue by 0.8 percentage points, to 16.2%, with more new entrants than any other region.

9 of the 12 new entrants to the Top 250 in FY2019 are based in the Asia Pacific region.

E-commerce and discounters drove high retail revenue growth among the Fastest 50 companies.

The Top 10 retailers list is dominated by American companies, with 7 of the 10 companies being based in the United States.

The Top 10 list continued to be Fast-moving consumer goods and continues to be the largest product sector. Its 135 companies (54% of companies) generated 66.0% of the Top 250 retail revenue in FY2019.
