Joint Study by Deloitte and the Federation of Industries of Greece (SΒΕ)

Reskilling & upskilling of the workforce in the Greek industry.

The Greek industrial landscape is a key driver of economic development and resilience. As the economy rapidly changes, continuous adaptations are essential, reshaping our modern labor market. However, a critical challenge remains: the lack of skilled human resources, particularly in key technical specialties within the industry.

To address the skill gap within the Greek manufacturing sector and fulfill current job vacancies, Deloitte and the Federation of Industries of Greece (SBE) conducted a detailed study. This study reflects the current landscape in Greece, drawing insights from the experience in other countries. It highlights key trends and developments in the manufacturing sector including new technologies, digital transformation, sustainability, globalization, inclusion, demographic changes, and the impact of the pandemic and aims to:

  • Identify areas for improving Vocational Education and Training (VET) in Greece.
  • Document best practices and successful examples.
  • Contribute to shaping the 5 strategic objectives for SBE.
  • Propose a comprehensive framework of 13 initiatives to strengthen vocational education and training in Greece. The goal is to enhance reskilling and upskilling in the Greek industrial sector and improve the alignment between supply and demand in the labor market.

At a crucial moment, when the urgent need for skilled personnel coincides with an important window of opportunity created by the availability of significant funds, this study represents a call to immediate action for a more effective VET system.
