The Migration Department of the Deputy Ministry of Migration and International Protection, has commenced accepting applications for the European Union (EU) Blue Card, as of 7 July 2025.
Key Details of the EU Blue Card Implementation:
Eligible Sectors
o Information and Communications Technologies (ICT).
o Pharmaceuticals (for research purposes only).
o Shipping (excluding ship captains and crew).
Minimum Salary Requirement
o €43,632 gross annual salary.
Application Process
o Applications must be submitted exclusively at the Migration Department’s head office, in Nicosia.
o Duly completed applications are processed within ninety (90) days.
Benefits for EU Blue Card Holders
o Right to entry, re-entry and residence in Cyprus.
o Access to qualified employment.
o Equal treatment with Cypriot citizens, in working conditions, education and social security.
o Ability to reside in and engage in economic activity in other EU member states, except Denmark and Ireland, for up to 90 days in any 180-day period, by presenting proof of the business purpose of the stay.
Family Reunification Process
o Family members of EU Blue Card holders from third countries can apply for residence permits in Cyprus through the ‘family reunification’ process.
o There is an option for simultaneous submission of applications for the EU Blue Card and family reunification.
o Residence permits for family members are granted with the same validity period as the EU Blue Card, provided the passport validity allows.
o Spouses have the right to free access to the Cypriot labor market for remunerated employment, including self-employment.
