e-SAFE project aims to make buildings energy efficient and earthquake-proof with affordable renovation solutions

On the 30th and 31st of March, the fourth e-SAFE project meeting was held in Deventer, Netherlands. The consortium partners had the chance to present the progress they had made over the preceding six months and exchange views on the next steps ahead.

During the meeting, Deloitte presented its work on the first version of two deliverables: the report on “Business models and financial schemes: identification and development” and the “White paper for policy engagement”. The first deliverable elaborated on the potential financial schemes and business models to be potentially employed for e-SAFE’s future commercialisation. The second deliverable concerned the creation of a white paper for policy engagement in relevant jurisdictions, including proposositions as to innovative and adaptable fiscal and financial incentives.

During the second day of the meeting, Deloitte led a working group discussion among various relevant partners on financial and social issues. A vigorous and fruitful brainstorming session took place, paving the way for future discussions and next deliverables.

A key topic discussed at the meeting was the the call for expression of interest for virtual pilots. The selected applicants will benefit from receiving a 3D survey of their building, 3D physical and digital models, a survey of the energy consumption and the potential energy savings and a detailed design of the energy-efficient and anti-seismic renovation solution, which will be defined through a co-design process.

The EU-funded H2020 project e-SAFE develops a market-ready, multi-purpose deep renovation system for buildings, encompassing technological, functional, aesthetic, financial and economic aspects for non-historic buildings in earthquake-prone regions in Europe.
