This International Women’s Day, we celebrate how six pioneering women working for Deloitte are empowering others to achieve extraordinary things. Six women who #ChooseToChallenge the status quo and who are positively impacting the lives of others outside our organisation.

Esther Schagen-van Luit

Hearing female cybersecurity leaders speak at a hacking conference inspired Esther to switch to a career in cybersecurity. Now she runs workshops to encourage girls in the Netherlands to choose to work in technology.

Grace Owusu

Grace wrote a book to remind women that they were ‘created to rule’. Through her book and community outreach, she is encouraging countless women in Ghana and beyond to aim high.

Amanda Scuglia

When Covid-19 hit, Amanda turned to painting to raise money for essential workers in the US. She is now inspiring others to use their skills and talent to spread happiness during the pandemic.

Amanda Mbobo

Amanda is helping young people in South Africa become the leaders of tomorrow—building their critical thinking and confidence to enable them to make their impact on the world.

Anggaris Anggia Cininta Priatna “Ghea”

Ghea’s biggest dream is to inspire Indonesia’s next generation. She co-founded Generation Peace to place tolerance and critical thinking at the heart of their education.

Claire Benson

Claire is drawing on her own experience with depression to campaign in support of the mental well-being of others and to break down barriers, one conversation at a time.

Working towards gender balance at Deloitte

At Deloitte, we are striving to achieve gender balance across the organisation. We have set aspirational goals for all Deloitte firms and have developed consistent initiatives spanning the entire career lifecycle—from recruitment, promotion and succession processes to mentoring, sponsorship and agile working. Deloitte firm CEOs have committed to deliver on these initiatives and report progress to the Deloitte Global CEO, Deloitte Global Executive and Deloitte Global Board of Directors on a regular basis.

The Butterfly Effect

In the 1960s, scientist Edward Lorenz began exploring the phenomenon we now know as the “butterfly effect” after discovering that an event as simple as the flutter of a butterfly wing has the potential to create a storm on the other side of the world.

Sometimes the biggest things start small. One seemingly small action can lead to significant and lasting change—this is the Butterfly Effect. And often when you trace back to the origins of a Butterfly Effect moment, you’ll find a pattern of personal connections empowering us to do the extraordinary.

Explore Deloitte’s 2020 Global Gender Impact Report—a collection of Butterfly Effect stories highlighting how our Deloitte professionals are positively impacting the lives of women and girls around the world.

The simplest act can have a profound impact—a single moment that sets the course for a lifetime.
