“Put yourself out there and allow yourself to try to get as much exposure and/or understanding to the field as you can.”
Meet Nolwazi. She’s a manager with the Financial Advisory team based in South Africa, specifically in the Valuations and Modelling team. “When it comes to valuations and modelling, I think what excites me the most is being able to help clients through that transaction journey… helping them make a decision that is best for the company and operations going forward.”
Nolwazi sees her job in two parts—the technical side where she and her team deliver and assist clients with valuations and modelling etc., and the human side. “Being able to connect with everyone that I work with, being able to just help, hopefully inspires other people who are coming up in the practice and working toward their career goals, especially women. And for me especially, women of colour.” To Nolwazi, the importance of diversity is invaluable. “My bigger purpose is to inspire other women. What really inspires younger generations and especially young women is when you can identify with someone who’s already in a particular space or position, then you see what is possible.”
Within her five years at Deloitte, Nolwazi highlights the support from leadership, especially the leaders she works with daily, as having the most impact on her experience. This environment “has really allowed me to grow as an individual and really grow as a professional,” she says.
“There are so many paths within our organisation, you can find your niche or your space and actually do something that you’ll enjoy,” encourages Nolwazi. “I believe this is one of the most supportive environments in terms of your career growth and development.”
