Liza Farrugia

Liza is the Learning Leader for Deloitte Malta.

Liza initially joined Deloitte Malta in 2000, soon after graduating from the University of Malta, and practised in taxation for 18 years.

She began her career in direct tax compliance, entrusted with building a team of tax professionals to deliver direct tax compliance services and also contributed to the establishment of the Indirect Tax compliance team, at times managing both direct and indirect tax compliance engagements. In 2009, she transitioned into advising on direct tax matters related to cross-border transactions and operations, with a particular focus on the gaming industry. She was involved in group tax consolidations for a major gaming group whose ultimate parent company was domiciled in Malta. In 2017, Liza became Business Risk Leader within Deloitte's Tax business in Malta, where she also led a tax practice technical review.

After taking a career break from January 2019 for a year and a half to explore a different path, she returned to Deloitte Malta in September 2020 as Learning Leader. In this role, Liza and her team focus on enhancing the learning environment for team members and innovating ways to integrate learning into the flow of work.
