I’m a director in Deloitte Consulting in Serbia and ETP SAP offering leader on a CE South level. I’ve been at Deloitte since February 2006, almost 17 years. I started my career as consultant in the Risk Advisory. During my first 15 years at Deloitte, I have been assisting clients in understanding risks associated with IT and emerging technologies and gaining assurance on controls pertaining to regulatory and other enterprise requirements.
How did you get your role in Deloitte and/or How did you get your first job in Technology Consulting?
After 10 years I spent as a software developer in a big company, I felt that it was about time to expand my knowledge and experience. I saw the continuation of my career at Deloitte as a Technology Consultant as another step in improving my skills and professional career. Just before my arrival, two colleagues left Deloitte and I was supposed to replace them on a quality assurance project for the implementation of an ERP system in an insurance company. Even then, it was clear to me that Deloitte is a company that respects diversity, gender equality, and the integrity of everyone. To be successful in Technology Consulting and have a career on the upward swing, you need technical knowledge, but also other skills such as communication, presentation, leadership, and coaching. The fact that I’m a woman has never stopped me from developing my career. I went through all the levels, starting from consultant.
What one bit of advice would you give to a young woman wanting to get into Technology Consulting as a career?
The tech industry is changing rapidly, and as for every woman who likes to learn, solve problems, continuously be side by side with the changes, and believe in their own capability, the sky is the limit. Our job is to support the new generation of women who would like to have a career in the technology consulting, that they can be involved without any prejudice, wondering or thinking whether they’re in the right place.
The most important thing for a young woman who wants to work in tech consulting is to let go of all the prejudice and self-restraint. Above all, she should believe that she can be successful, and that Technology Consulting is not destined for men only. I have been working in a predominantly male team since the very beginning of my career at Deloitte. My advice is to define the goal that she wants to achieve, so the steps that need to be taken to come to an achievement will be more easily defined. She should talk with more experienced colleagues about the technical and non-technical skills that are necessary, to learn continuously, to recognize her strengths and weaknesses and to work on their improvement, to be persistent and ready for new opportunities and challenges.
What do you love most about your job at Deloitte?
I'm not one of those people who like a predictable future and repetitive jobs. What I like the most about working at Deloitte is that there is no routine, every project is different from the other ones, with a different level of complexity of the activities that need to be performed, a new challenge and a new opportunity to learn something. We work with the largest corporations, without limitations on geography, industries, clients, and technologies. We have excellent experts from different fields so that the joint work of several teams gives excellent results and added value to the projects we are engaged in and to our clients. I also really like that we have access to different learning platforms and programs.
