Belgium’s Federal Public Service of Finance (FPS Finance) published an update in the "news" section on its website in Dutch and French on 11 July 2024, and in German on 17 July 2024, providing a useful summary of the relevant information regarding the upcoming mandatory e-invoicing obligation in Belgium for business-to-business transactions as from 1 January 2026.
The chosen method for the transmission of electronic invoices is the Pan-European Public Procurement Online (PEPPOL) network, and the update emphasizes the need for businesses to use software designed to operate through the PEPPOL network. In collaboration with AGORIA (the Belgian federation of the technology industry), FPS Finance is working on compiling a list of compliant software and service providers, including solutions that can be used at no or limited cost. Once available, the list will be published on the “e-invoice” website and will be updated regularly.
FPS Finance has also published a comprehensive list of frequently asked questions (FAQs), answering some of the key questions related to e-invoicing.
Businesses are encouraged to stay informed and ensure they are prepared for the upcoming changes.
