The 2024 calls for project proposals under the European Union (EU) LIFE funding programme that supports and helps to implement innovative close-to-market projects in line with environmental and climate policies in Europe, are expected to be published on 18 April 2024. Companies undertaking ambitious and cutting-edge sustainability initiatives should investigate whether any could be eligible for funding under the programme.
Targeted projects will relate to:
- The development and demonstration of eco-innovative techniques and approaches;
- The promotion of best practices and behavioural changes;
- Helping to implement and enforce plans and strategies, in compliance with EU legislation; and
- Catalysing the large-scale deployment of successful solutions.
The programme is open to both large companies and small and medium-sized enterprises, as well as public authorities and non-governmental organisations.
Funding intensity
LIFE 2021-2027 has expanded into the following four new sub-programmes with a budget for the present call soon to be announced by the European Commission:
- Nature and biodiversity: Supports projects that contribute to the development, implementation, and monitoring of innovative techniques and methods to promote best practices in relation to nature and biodiversity.
- Circular economy and quality of life: Aims to support the transition to a sustainable, circular, energy-efficient, and climate-resilient economy, and a toxic-free environment, and also to protect, restore, and improve the quality of the environment.
- Climate change mitigation and adaptation: Focusses on actions that support the possibility of achieving a climate-neutral and resilient society, implementing the 2030 energy and climate policy framework, and meeting the EU's commitments under the Paris Agreement on climate change.
- Clean energy transition: Intended to facilitate the transition towards an energy-efficient, renewable energy-based, climate-neutral, and resilient economy.
Deadline and submission process
The calls for project proposals (Standard Action Projects, Coordination and Support Action Grants) for the four sub-programmes each have an expected deadline between 17 and 19 September 2024.
All the calls are expected to open on 18 April 2024 and will consist of a single stage application.
