Practical Applications of the Regulatory Intelligence Solution

Testimonials

Client: A European Transmission System Operator (TSO)

Request: A TSO company sought an expert assessment of its sustainability report to ensure compliance with the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD). Specifically, the review evaluated the report’s alignment with the European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRSs) to identify any gaps in required sustainability disclosures.

Solution: We combined generative AI-powered analysis with expert review to thoroughly check alignment with ESRS requirements. Our approach included:

Step 1 - Document Parsing: Used advanced technologies to handle the report’s complex structure.
Step 2 - Gap Assessment: Leveraged RegAI to evaluate each ESRS data point, providing references and clear reasoning.
Step 3 – Expert Validation: Deloitte experts performed a final manual review to confirm findings and ensure accuracy.

Value delivered:

  • Clarity on Gaps: Pinpointed specific ESRS requirements that need further attention.
  • Actionable Insights: Provided practical recommendations to guide updates and improvements.
  • Efficiency Gains: Saved time and resources by automating the initial review process.
  • Confidence in Reporting: Boosted trust in the report’s accuracy and completeness through expert validation.

Client: An FSI client based in Germany.

Request: DORA outlines stringent requirements for businesses regarding their digital operational resilience standards. Deloitte was engaged to assess whether the client's policies on this topic are compliant with these requirements.

Solution: Deloitte's RegMiner solution was leveraged to extract the relevant requirements out of the DORA regulation. Next, these requirements were checked manually against the company policies. These checks were carried out by Deloitte experts in financial and digital regulation.

How our Regulatory Intelligence Solution speeds up this work: To speed up this process, the gap analysis was introduced in this workflow: Instead of checking each requirement manually, our AI solution checked whether the company policies met each requirement. The output of the AI was then validated by a "human in the loop". On average, a time saving of 50% was reported.

Client: A client in life sciences & healthcare

Request: The client requested Deloitte's support in gathering an overview of the local regulatory requirements applicable in the EMEA countries where they operate.

Solution: Deloitte approached the task by breaking it down into two distinct steps:

  1. Identifying the regulatory landscape down to local requirements with a view of regulations, industry standards and guidelines,
  2. Extracting and validating the relevant requirements from the identified regulatory documents based on the targeted scope with focus on key compliance controls.

How our Regulatory Intelligence Solution speeds up this work: Traditionally, documents would be processed manually. By incorporating our AI tool, an initial step is added where the tool provides a list of requirements automatically extracted from the documents. This is then followed by the regular manual checks.

Time Saved: On average, a time saving of 75% is reported. It takes the "human in the loop" 1/4 of the time to validate the AI output compared to producing the output entirely manually.

Request: A company selling food products to consumers in Europe sought Deloitte's support to better understand the current regulatory landscape and upcoming regulations at EU and national levels for food packaging and packaging waste management. The aim was to inform the network of franchisees and receive advice on how to prepare for new regulations and ensure business continuity.

Solution: Deloitte approached the task by breaking it down into two distinct steps:

  1. Identifying the Regulatory Landscape using Deep Search: Mapping current relevant packaging sustainability regulations at EU and national levels to identify the compliance status, with a view of regulations, industry standards, and guidelines.
  2. Extracting and Validating Relevant Requirements: Extracting and validating the relevant requirements and their metadata from the identified regulatory documents based on the targeted scope with a focus on key compliance controls.

Value delivered: Traditionally, documents would be processed manually. By incorporating our AI tool, an initial step is added where the tool provides a list of requirements automatically extracted from the documents. This is then followed by regular manual checks. This approach ensures that the clients specialists receive pragmatic recommendations relevant for their operations and franchisees.

Time Saved: On average, a time saving of 70% is reported. It takes the "human in the loop" 4/15 of the time to validate the AI output compared to producing the output entirely manually.

Client: An Asian adhesives manufacturer

Request: The client requested Deloitte's support in identifying circularity opportunities from EU regulatory requirements to tailor its go-to-market strategy of its new debonding technology.

Solution: Our approach involves leveraging AI to screen identified EU regulatory documents in scope, identify and select the most relevant sections applicable to specific topics and extract pertinent requirements.

How our Regulatory Intelligence Solution speeds up this work: Traditionally, documents would be processed manually. By incorporating our AI tool, an initial step is added where the tool provides a list of requirements automatically extracted from the documents. This is then followed by the regular manual checks.

Time Saved: On average, a time saving of 30-40% is reported. It takes the "human in the loop" 2/3 of the time to validate the AI output compared to producing the output entirely manually.

Client: A Japanese Automotive Parts Manufacturer

Request: The client, an automotive parts supplier, wants to create an environmental policy based on its environmental strategic documents and in line with regulations (CSRD)

Solution: First, using the client’s existing materials and strategic documents, RegAI drafted a new environmental policy. Then, we leveraged the RegAI gap analysis to evaluate whether the existing material is compliant with the CSRD requirements. Next, we leveraged the policy update functionality to identify how to update the policy.

Value Delivered:

  • Delivered a CSRD aligned environmental policy to the client
  • Efficiency gain: RegAI accelerated the policy drafting process, reducing time and effort significantly

Client: Confidential

Request: The current landscape for achieving resilience for critical infrastructure is complex and challenging to navigate, given the various upcoming directives and regulations imposed by different stakeholder on different levels (Regional, Federal, European, NATO, UN, etc.). The responsibilities of different competent authorities are not self-evident.

Solution: A comprehensive and holistic understanding of the regulatory framework is a crucial building block to ensure a coordinated approach towards resilience. By mapping the regulatory resilience landscape with regards to resilience of critical infrastructure, we created an overview of the responsibilities given to each of the 9 competent authorities in Belgium.

How our Regulatory Intelligence Solution speeds up this work: The solution enabled a detailed, quantitative analysis of the responsibilities of the different competent authorities as defined in the different regulations. This analysis took a matter of days, while similar past analysis have taken multiple weeks.

Client: Internal project

Request: The Antwerp Declaration calls for actions to eliminate regulatory incoherence, conflicting objectives, unnecessary complexity in legislation, and over-reporting. In light of this context, our sustainability team wanted to map out the overlap between different EU Circular economy legislations.

Solution: Our tool brings order in the regulatory landscape in three steps:

  1. Extraction: The tool extracts enforceable requirements, as well as relevant metadata.
  2. Classification: The tool automatically classifies the requirements into relevant categories.
  3. Simplification: The tool assesses the extracted requirements for similarities and compatibility: Identical requirements are merged to create a simplified list. Compatible (but non-identical) requirements are grouped.

The pricing structure consists of two main components: a base licence fee per user and a consumption-based fee for AI services. The consumption fee operates on a credit system, where your organisation purchases credits that are then used when accessing the AI functionalities. These credits correspond to the costs associated with using the Large Language Models (LLMs) that generate the analyses.

There are two kinds of LLM interactions that incur a cost: Running an analysis and uploading a document.

Yes, all user interactions within the tool are recorded, enabling comprehensive audit trails. However, once data is exported from the tool (e.g., to Word, Excel, or clipboard), the audit trail ceases.

To mitigate the risk of hallucinations—where AI generates responses not grounded in facts—RegAI employs a robust referencing system. The tool bases its answers exclusively on the provided documents or “context” and explicitly cites the exact paragraph from which the information was derived. If no relevant paragraph is found, the tool will respond with “I don’t know”, ensuring transparency and reliability.

We are currently developing a comprehensive tutorial for RegAI. In the meantime, we offer live tutorial sessions for new users to facilitate onboarding and effective use of the tool.

RegAI is designed to be industry- and jurisdiction-agnostic. It can be used to assess compliance across multiple jurisdictions simultaneously, enabling seamless cross-border regulatory evaluations.

Upon permanent termination of your RegAI subscription, your data will be deleted by default unless you request otherwise. Additionally, data associated with inactive accounts will be deleted automatically after three years of non-usage, although exceptions can be arranged upon request.

In theory, there is no limit to the number of documents that can be uploaded for analysis. In practice, the limit will be determined by the upload cost, which currently stands at approximately 0.15 credits (around €0.50) per page.

The tool can interpret and analyze documents in any language. However, the tool's interface itself is currently only available in English.

The tool’s underlying AI models are continuously updated and improved as new models become available on the market. When a new model is released, we evaluate its performance against associated costs to determine whether it should be integrated into RegAI.

RegAI is a web-based solution requiring internet access and a modern web browser, preferably Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge.

Trial access to RegAI can be requested. Please contact us to arrange a demonstration or trial period.
