CSRD Accelerator tool

Designed to streamline CSRD reporting, delivered simply, with speed (automation), and consistency

The EU Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) aims to standardise companies' ESG performance reporting for investors and customers. However, it poses a challenge for organisations to adapt to it. Deloitte’s CSRD Accelerator tool guides companies through the ‘collect to report’ process, in line with the European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS), developed by EFRAG. It embeds all quantitative KPIs and underlying data points to low levels of granularity simplifying the identification, collection, and presentation of the required data according to the CSRD guidelines. The tool delivers sustainability statements produced in line with ESRS as well as insights and an ESG dashboard to support decision making and enable companies to deliver on their sustainability ambitions.

What is CSRD?

The Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) is a recent EU initiative that requires large and listed companies to disclose information about the impact, risks, and opportunities arising from their environmental, social, and governance performance. This helps investors, civil society organisations, consumers, and other stakeholders to evaluate the ESG performance of companies as part of the European Green Deal. From the financial year 2024, the CSRD will apply to approximately 50,000 companies in Europe.

Companies will have to significantly improve their sustainability reporting capabilities and enlarge the scope of information currently being disclosed. The CSRD requires companies to report according to the European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS), which are developed by EFRAG. It also makes it mandatory for companies to digitalise and make available for audit the sustainability information that they report.

CSRD poses a challenge for companies in the scope

The architecture of the ESRS is guided by the CRSD. There are 12 ESG standards: two cross-cutting, five environmental, four social, and one governance. A total of 82 disclosure requirements (quantitative and qualitative) represents around 1,144 data points. These must be compared and aligned to what companies currently report to avoid duplication and reduce the cost of reporting. Hence, reporting against CSRD is a complex, transformative journey for companies. Companies will need to rethink their organisation, and uplift their data management and 'collect to report' processes in designing cost-efficient, robust, and in-control processes to gather and consolidate required data at the group and local level, calculate the material metrics and KPIs, and report them in the required ESRS format. Furthermore, companies will need to build reporting dashboards to track their progress on their sustainability ambitions and share information with internal and external stakeholders.
