European Broadband Consumer Survey 2024

No need for more speed?

In an era where connectivity powers our digital lives, the role of telecom companies has never been more crucial. Yet, as they invest heavily in faster networks, they face unexpected challenges. Our European Broadband Consumer Survey 2024 delves into these challenges, offering key insights into consumer preferences across seven major European markets. This comprehensive study sheds light on the shifting priorities of consumers—who value stability, reliability, and affordability over mere speed—and provides essential guidance for telcos navigating this complex landscape.

“Telcos are true enablers of our economy, investing in the development of fast and reliable networks of the future. Nevertheless, our study shows that not everything is about speed and that now more than ever, telcos need to find ways to meet the ever-evolving customer needs.”

Vincent Fosty  - Technology, Media & Telecommunications Industry Leader

Challenging times for telcos…

Despite significant investments in new infrastructure that have supported the development of the European digital economy, telcos are facing challenges to monetise their assets. Overcapacity and consumer indifference to increasing speeds have created a complex environment for telcos.

Our survey, the European Broadband Consumer Survey 2024, conducted across seven key markets in Europe, helps stakeholders navigate this ever-evolving market by examining trends, challenges, and opportunities in the broadband sector. It reveals that while consumers are generally satisfied with their broadband services (both home and mobile), they prioritise stability, reliability, and even price over speed. Beyond this sensitivity, consumers also appear willing to invest more in hardware that enhances the performance and reliability of their home broadband services, such as range extenders.

Although Belgian consumers align with certain European trends, prioritising price and stability over connection speed, they continue to face persistent issues that must be addressed for telcos to thrive in the highly competitive Belgian B2C market.

…Particularly in maintaining profitability and monetising investments

To maintain their profitability, telcos will need to address these overcapacity challenges by optimising existing resources, exploring cost reduction strategies, and potentially rethinking their pricing models. The European Broadband Consumer Survey 2024 is a tool for reflection on developing customer-centric strategies to better navigate the challenges and opportunities, ensure sustainable growth, and improve customer satisfaction.
