Financial health in Belgium

Working together to boost financial resilience for all

In 2022, we launched the first ever comprehensive study into the financial health of Belgians, conducted in partnership with Argenta. Now we are back with the second edition, examining the evolution. The financial health of Belgians has improved significantly, with 46% of households now financially adequate or healthy, compared to 36% in 2022. Yet, individuals and ecosystem stakeholders need to take action to continue to improve the financial health of all Belgians.

Where are we now?

More Belgians feel in control of their financial health, women are closing the gap on men, and the majority of households feel they can manage their financial situation.

However, despite the improvements, 54% of households are financially unhealthy or vulnerable and only 23% do not encounter problems with financial planning.

Why does financial health matter?

Just like physical health, financial health requires continuous attention. Whether the economic situation is taxing, as it was in 2022, or it is rather stable, as is the case in 2025, maintaining a balance between income, expenses, debts, savings, planning, and skills is not easy.

It remains difficult to achieve concrete behavioural changes and encourage people to modify their financial approach. Our study aims to address both the hard facts and the emotional side of money matters to guide and inspire individuals and ecosystem stakeholders to understand and improve financial health.

What can be done?

Collective action is key. We call on financial institutions, non-profit organisations, governmental authorities, research institutions, educational institutions, regulators and employers to join forces and empower all Belgians to drive positive change.
