Deloitte developed a digital platform for a public sector emergency services organisation to enhance bushfire preparedness and risk mitigation, following recommendations from a national review of the 2019–2020 bushfire season. The project focused on digitising workflows, reducing manual tasks, and improving inter-agency coordination. Key elements included redesigning processes for Fire Permits, Fire Danger Ratings, and Fire Bans, with a notable integration of ServiceNow with Esri GIS and the Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) for real-time weather and fire data. This integration supports timely decision-making and situational awareness. Over 18 months, Deloitte delivered an integrated solution featuring workflow automation, geospatial mapping, and real-time meteorological data. The platform allows the public to apply for fire permits online and enables emergency services to manage fire bans effectively. It has improved governance, transparency, and collaboration across agencies, enhancing bushfire risk management and providing faster, more connected community-focused services.

Deloitte, in collaboration with Esri Australia, is developing an AI-driven computer vision solution for real-time road defect detection. This initiative addresses the non-standardised, reactive nature of current road maintenance practices, which are typically viewed as maintenance costs rather than community safety issues. Traditional methods rely on costly laser equipment that provides infrequent updates. The new software platform integrates computer vision and IoT sensors to provide a continuous overview of road conditions, enhancing local council operations. Currently in trial, it has streamlined over 70,000 defects into 10,000 prioritised tasks, improving management of NSW’s $87 billion road network and fostering a proactive focus on community safety. This solution holds the potential to transform road maintenance across NSW councils.

The Department of Environment & Science's Water Quality & Investigations System Strategy team developed a WQI portal to provide stakeholders with secure, self-service access to water quality data. The portal includes an interactive Queensland map with overlays, advanced search filters, and sharing options. Users can view water quality concentrations, pollutant loads, metadata, and download data in multiple formats. The design supports future enhancements and features a brief analytics tool to foster data-driven insights and collaborative improvements. This portal enhances communication and service efficiency by offering accessible and comprehensive water quality information.
