Climate Risk Integrator

Deloitte assisted the Commonwealth to understand and assess expenditure on disaster management, the system-wide arrangements that help or hinder the Commonwealth to understand ‘what good looks like, and made recommendations to reform these arrangements. This included a focus on how funding can be optimised to support a system that is fit-for-purpose to support wellbeing, national productivity, prosperity and economic security and streamlines government roles and responsibilities across Federal, State, and local government jurisdictions.

Our services included financial and economic modelling and analysis which involved policy options assessment and the provision of a climate overlay for economic modelling of future costs to understand how climate change may further increase costs. CRI was used to support a rapid climate sensitivity analysis to understand areas of greatest potential exposure to multiple hazards within each state and territory jurisdiction of Australia. This enabled a broader understanding of the uncertainty of future climate at different scales and decision-making contexts.

Climate change is increasing the frequency and severity of multiple high-impact weather events and other extreme conditions. To increase a shared understand of how this is impacting society now and into the future, and inform long-term policy decisions and priority actions for climate adaptation, multiple state jurisdictions have commissioned their inaugural climate risk assessments that were supported by our Sustainability & Climate practice at Deloitte. Climate Risk Integrator was used to assess climate change-related risks and opportunities under different climate change scenarios and time periods and highlight regions that are more exposed and vulnerable, indicating regions that are a priority for adaptation.
