How do you work flexibly?
"I love working hybrid-ly and no week is ever the same, which I really enjoy. Deloitte has incredible flexibility – it took a little getting used to, but now I’ve created a great way of life for myself, I can’t imagine not being able to work like this. I work a few days from home, a few days from the office and I aim to be onsite with my client 1-2 days per week.
I usually work from home on Mondays to set myself up for the week ahead (and put a few loads of laundry through the machine!). I head down to my client’s site and work from there 1 day a week. Fridays are great days to be in the office as we usually have team building activities and I like to organise a lunch date in the CBD, so I have something to look forward to at the end of the week.
I’m a late start - late finish kind of person as I go to the gym before work and like to ease into the day starting at about 8.30am/9.00am. My manager is total opposite – she loves an early start and is usually online from 7am. We just make sure to schedule meetings with each other during our communal hours. I’m a night owl, so my productive time is in the afternoon-evenings. This works out really well for me as some of my clients are based in Adelaide, so my mornings are filled with meetings and then I can focus on tasks in the afternoons.
When I work from home, I usually get on with tasks that needs my concentrated attention, or sometimes I might have a meeting-intense day – much easier to do from home! When I’m at my clients, I try to keep my day relatively free of heavy work, so I can have those impromptu conversations. When I’m in the office I like to plan my day around face-to-face meetings. Because Fridays can be quite social days, I plan to do all my random admin like my expenses, reading newsletters, finalising my timesheet, and clearing out my inbox".

How have flexible working arrangements helped you thrive in your career?
"Being able to ‘work my way’ means that I don’t feel guilty about taking 10 mins to do a load of laundry, or take my dog for a walk on my lunch break. I also enjoy getting dressed up to go to the office and build connections with my colleagues, and spend time with my clients working on their engagement. Not having to sweat the small stuff means I’m more focused on the outcomes I’m meant to be delivering, rather than making sure I’m on the clock M-F/9-5.
Of course, if there is a deadline or a deliverable due, then I prioritise getting that completed. But for the most part, because I’m able to work my way, I don’t tend to do crazy hours or feel overwhelmed by the workload".
