How Digital Tax is improving people’s lives

Making a difference – Hear Anna’s story

It’s easy for Sydney to instantly capture your heart, but it’s even better when the career move that brought you there, continues to do the same, even after 6 years.

This is the story of Anna, who joined Deloitte Belgium in 2010 as a client administrator. After taking a role in the technology team within Tax & Legal in 2015, she found herself with a life-changing opportunity to embark on a 2-year overseas secondment with Deloitte Australia. “Almost 6 years have passed and I’m still here and still happy about it”.

The profession is becoming more and more digital, so to continue delivering quality, we need to be innovative, explore new technology and constantly broaden our knowledge

Since joining our Deloitte Australia Tax team, Anna has been involved in both internal and client facing business transformation and digital solution implementation projects as a business analyst, test lead and project manager. It's safe to say, Anna's experienced a great amount of career growth and continued to advance her skills and knowledge in her roles.

“Ask me about DDE, RPA, SCRUM, Delphi, TFAR, FBT automation. The skills involved in my role relate to translating business language to technical terms, time management, multi-tasking, agile project management, attention to detail, looking at things from the perspective of an end user and of a developer, thinking of various scenarios and their outcomes. Our fantastic team consists of unique specialists in different areas, including tax technical, software development and web design”.

Anna has found success in collaborating with other colleagues across Tax & Legal, highlighting tax practitioners who are instrumental in building tax tools for clients.

Anna wears many hats, from engaging with stakeholders and developing relationships with clients, to designing user interfaces and testing solutions. “I love watching digital solutions being developed and most importantly, how they help our practitioners resolve clients’ issues. The profession is becoming more and more digital, so to continue delivering quality, we need to be innovative, explore new technology and constantly broaden our knowledge”.

When posed with the question of how Anna’s profession in Tax & Legal is making a difference in the world, her response leads us to think beyond what we see in front of us. “There’ve been times when I felt like I’m doing useless work because tax is all about materialistic matters and money is not the most important part of a human life. But one day, I realised that I’m helping individual practitioners do their daily job (at least trying to). And the more routine tasks can be automated, the more quality life those individuals might be able to afford”.

Anna has leaned in to our DeloitteFlex using it to energise herself and work in a way that suits her best, “it helps me have the me-time I need, spending time by the water in the mornings as well as care for my school-age son”.
